Eating at one of the Ocean View Restaurants on Maui, is the ultimate dining experience!
OK, well the food should be good to, as well as the service.
From breakfast at the Gazebo (voted #1 best hideaway for breakfast), to lunch at Kimo’s Restaurant in Lahaina (a local favorite from forever), to dinner at Mama’s Fish House (extremely popular restaurant on Maui for fresh Fish). There are lots of Restaurants on Maui with an Ocean View!
Maui can have some intensely beautiful Sunsets.
What could be better than having dinner at one of Maui’s best Restaurants? The answer…watching the Sun sink slowly into the Pacific Ocean!
Mind you the Sun sets early here on Maui. The Sunsets at 5:42 PM in November and at 7:10 PM by the end of June.
Be pre-pared to eat early if you want to enjoy dinner at a nice restaurant and watch the sunset.
Some restaurants, like Sarento’s on the Beach, change the time they open for dinner to coincide with the sunset. Who wants to have a nice dinner out, only to leave just as the sun is setting?
1 option I like to recommend, is to have a pre-dinner drink and an appetizer at one of Maui’s best restaurants, and dinner at another. You could even go for dessert and an after dinner drink or coffee at yet another restaurant.
My brother recently had dinner at Merriman’s in Kapalua, then went to the Hula Grill at Whalers Village on Ka’anapali Beach for dessert. A less expensive option close by Merriman’s is The Sea House Restaurant. Located on Napili Beach, the Sea House Restaurant has sweeping ocean views, with amazing views of the Island of Moloka’i.
Restaurant hop, and enjoy more choices.
Dining at multiple Maui Restaurants works especially well in Wailea and Ka’anapali. Both luxury resort areas have an ocean-front “boardwalk” connecting each other. Most everyone enjoys strolling along Ka’anapali Beach… with the Tiki torches lit up and the Stars out at night, Maui is a romantics dream come true!
Popular Ocean view Restaurants in Ka’anapali include Leilani’s Restaurant on Ka’anapali Beach, Hula Grill Restaurant, and the new Monkeypod Restaurant that opened yesterday. I hear the soft grand opening October 5th, was a huge success!
Front Street Lahaina boasts many Ocean front and Ocean view restaurants to choose from.
While in Wailea, have a drink at the Hilton Waldorf Astoria’s Humu Humu Room (short for Humuhumunukunukuapua’a- our State Fish). The Humu Humu Restaurant has one of the most romantic restaurant settings on Maui! Have a Tropical Cocktail, like the Lava Flow, and an Appetizer. You may find yourselves staying for dinner… the Humu’s specialty is Lobster! You can even choose your Lobster from the salt-water tank…
You might want to try one of the restaurants inside the Four Seasons Wailea: Duo Steak and Seafood, Spago or Ferraro’s Bar e Ristorante. All are popular dining options in Wailea. The Wailea Beach Resort’s ocean view dining experience is at the new Humble Market Kitchen, while at the Hyatt’s Andaz Wailea, Morimoto’s is hugely popular.
While Monkeypod By Merriman Wailea, is extremely popular, they have a limited ocean view.
Moving around the Island to the quaint little beach town of Pa’ia up on the “North Shore” of Maui.
You would think there would be a Oceanfront restaurant in this adorable town… Nope. While there must be some 20+ really good restaurants in this itty bitty town, none that I am aware of, boast an ocean view.
So off to Hana we go…
I normally tell visitors to Maui, that you do not have to go all the way to Hana to see Waterfalls. You do however, if you want to have lunch at one of the Ocean View restaurants on the East side of Maui. Hana is another itty bitty little town, only this one some visitors drive right on through without realizing they missed it.
There are 3 choices (at this time) for Ocean view dining in Hana.
- Travassa at Hotel Hana Maui (5 Star Hotel)
- Hana Ranch Restaurant (for many years they had the worst reputation, however they are now owned by the same owners as Travassa and I have been hearing good comments)
- Barefoot Cafe & Bakery in Hana Bay is a small local spot with the best Ocean views in Hana!
Food Trucks have become popular here in Hawaii in the last 5 years.
One of the best Food Truck on Maui is Braddah Hutts BBQ Grill . While Braddah Huts, Hana Ranch’s ‘Hana Burger’ Truck (Maui’s Best Burgers in Hana) and Da Fish Shack do not have Ocean Views, you can take your take out to one of the beaches like beautiful Hana Bay for a Picnic. Monday through Friday is best, as the locals are at the beaches on the weekends. For a local favorite here in the Islands, stop by Huli Huli Chicken for some Huli Huli Chicken :-). For a healthier option stop by Hana Fresh as you enter Hana.
You may also choose to take your plate lunch to one of the area’s waterfalls or ponds…
If you are adventurous and plan on driving around the famous “back side” of Maui, there is a small store in Kaupo. The owners do not own the land evidently, and as the store needed repairs, they were asked to leave. Yet they have a outdoor stand now. When you reach Kaupo, you will be ready for a chance to get out of the car and stretch your legs.
I noticed last time I went around the back side of Hana, that like all the new food trucks, there were lots of new Farm and Fruit Stands as well. One very unique stand is also in the Kaupo area. Stop by and buy some Banana’s and take a look around. I no longer tell people to take a picnic lunch to Hana. Visitors driving along the Road to Hana have many more food options. If you decide take your own picnic, we always stop at Minute Stop in Pa’ia. Minute Stop has most everything you need for a Picnic at the Beach!
So there you have it, a list of over 20 of Maui’s best Restaurants with Ocean views. When you are on an Island, finding an Ocean view restaurant is not hard, finding one that is consistently good…can be.
I hope you enjoy eating your way around the Island of Maui, Hawaii.
